I used to do New Years resolutions...but gosh who sticks to those!?!
I've recently learned a new way. What I am doing this year is a word. A word as a focus to create a feeling/meaning/vibe to all I do. My word for 2016 is Plod. Not hugely romantic, others have much more poetic ones I am sure! But for me it's a slow and steady movement forward. I have things I want to achieve, but I cannot try to rush them or I get myself all hot and bothered and I achieve nothing. I also need to plod in my chores, in the time I sit with my boy and play (and not think of the other things I could/should be doing) and in moving forward in bigger goals in small steps. I've had nearly half a month with this word plod and I love it. I remind myself often and in a variety of circumstances to 'plod'. When hanging the washing, doing dishes, going for a walk, or trying to get out of the house (remember the days when it took moments not chunks of a whole hour to leave the house?? ) I've also got a second word. 'Soft'. Specifically, I use this in social situations when I feel myself a little tightly wound up, thinking of a conversation starter, or what I should be doing next (hmmm...I'm no where near as introverted as that makes me sound, but I AM introverted) and I need to remind myself to 'soften' (i.e relax a little, breath a bit deeper, let the muscle tension ease a little). Have a think...what could your word/s be? Get some colours, some pens whatever and brain dump all the words that spring to mind. They can be sentences to start with. Mine began as 'don't rush' and I sat with this for a few days before it morphed into 'plod'. The next thing I'm doing with this word is to turn it into a piece of 'art' to hang somewhere to remind me of this years word of intention. I'll be posting about that process soon... For now, if you are a mumma, would you like to join the Creative and Calm Mummas Facebook group? Here's the link if you do, and I'd love to hear what your 2016 word is! xx
